From what I heard from the other people who went with me to Harran, the children there had school schedules that revolved around work hours on the farm. They have school early in the morning and then school again later in the day. The big break in the afternoon allows the children to go home and help their parents with farm work and other chores. This was the case with the little boy that was our tour guide.
