Learning Turkish

Learning and speaking Turkish is very fun.  It is an Agglutinative language, where words are formed by adding extension to them.  This can include tense, plural, negative, person.  since it is a vowel harmony language, conjugation is often needed.  For example, gidiyorum (I go now) git is “go”, conjugating it to gidiyor makes it present, adding um makes it “I”.  If I want to say “we go now/let’s go” I would then say gidiyoruz.   It is not an easy language because of all the conjugations but it is a very fun language once you understand how it works.  Plus, when you are studying in Turkey, you’ll learn the language so much faster because you’ll be using it everyday.  Four months I can speak Turkish so much better than I can speak Japanese, and I took a whole year of it.

If you are contemplating weather to take the language class or not.  TAKE IT!  You might think it is a waste of time learning something you might not use in the future but you’ll enjoy it and you’ll get to use it immediately.  Since most people you’ll encounter don’t speak English, it is a survival element.
